mmmmm. final fantasy touches my private spots....
ok, so i bought the collectors edition and the collectors edition guide book.
The extra collectors edition dvd == boring as fuck. what makes it worthwhile is it shows the graphics from the all 13 (yeah, sneak of 13) FF's as well as the intro music from each. I will never tire of that intro music... even the 8bit versions.
the extra collectors edition art book is teh beautimous. its some gorgeous artwork and screen prints. very yummy for the eye and imagination.
Storyline - Set in the world of Ivalice (FFTA), two larger kingdoms are warring and the small country that Vaan (the main character) lives in is in the middle and gets dominated.
from what i can tell, the story is the freeing of this country from the rule of this other country... but i could be wrong. its supposed to be the most political storyline ever for FF series. as always, the main toon is an orphan and respected by other orphans and wants to be a sky pirate and have his own airship. Im not too far into the story because im a grinding fool.
combat - clunky at first but very easy to get used to it. as your skills and abilities grow, it is easy to see how robust this combat system can become. I havent tested the Gambit system out yet, but althought the gambit system has taken a lot of bad press, it seems like a really useful and sweet way to manage party members. i am looking forward to growing with this combat system as my party grows.
Camera angle - at first the camera angle is horribly offensive. it is awkward and cannot be positioned in any pleasant angle that allows for enjoyable game play.
after some time, i have learned that the camera can be very useful but it requires an almost constantly "fiddling wid it". you have to work the camera more than you actually do anything else in this game. Square shouldve taken the stable cameras from MMO style games (FFXI or WoW or DAoC) and intergrated them into 12.
Skill system- called the License system or License grind or License Points.... it is a grid system that allows you to gain spendable skill points based off of how many mobs you have killed and then spend anyway you like within the confines of a grid. You can also use this grid system to know exactly how many mobs youve killed in the game... 1 kill = 1LP. add up your skills + available LP and thats how many monsters youve felled. It gives indepth customization to characters without having a specific "Job" or without itemization but is much more user friendly than the FFX point system. So far, enjoyable.
I like this game thus far. i've spent about 30 hours grinding skill points and getting used to the areas, combat and other systems. looking forward to getting into the meat of the story this week.
