The Druid's class-defining ability is shapeshifting. A Feral Druid is a Druid that concentrates on making his or her shapeshifted forms as effective as possible. You'll find as many opinions as there are players, but there are basically two types of Druids that call themselves Feral:
* "Pure Feral" involves ekeing out every last bit of utility in forms. This means focusing on Str/Agi/Sta, loading up on feral talents, and generally playing as a substitute for a Warrior or a Rogue with the ability to shift into an emergency caster.
* "Feral Hybrid" changes back and forth as necessary, and therefore can make use of all five stats (although exact playstyles vary, Str/Sta/Int are definite wants). This type of Feral Druid is generally more concerned with PvP.
The following list aims to be a complete index of high-level equipment that may be of interest for a Feral Druid. Itemization is improving, but most leather armor is defined as "Rogue armor" (physical stats) or "Druid armor" (caster stats). We do not have any sets designed for us. Feral Druids have to cobble together a personal kit of random items with the stats that we like. This is both a blessing and a hindrance. We can tailor our stats completely to our tastes, but do not get a set bonus. We can choose based on appearance and will never look like near-clones of one another (as many classes including caster Druids often do), but kit-bashing can also result in a walking fashion disaster. As long as Blizzard sees fit to make Druid sets all caster-oriented, we may as well look on the bright side and enjoy our individuality.
What this is NOT going to do is tell you what the best choice is. Only you can decide which dungeons to visit, how much crit to sacrifice for attack power, and so on. There is no single best choice, this is simply a resource.
As far as sets go:
Wildheart Raiment is our first set and is scattered across Blackrock Spire, Stratholme, and Scholomance. It is an all-around caster set but not terribly effective for healing or nuking. Only the Kilt has any Feral stats; the rest is frankly not worth getting.
Haruspex Garb is a 5-piece set of quest rewards from Zul'Gurub and therefore fairly close in power to Cenarion. It is also a caster set, but each piece has unusually high Armor for its level. I do not feel that high Armor alone makes caster gear, but their presence on this list has been requested often enough that I include them. For those of you that need to augment all facets of your Druid ways, Haruspex is a good choice.
Cenarion Raiment is the Druid's Tier 1 set, found in the Molten Core. It is a caster's set.
Stormrage Raiment is the Druid's Tier 2 set, found mostly in Blackwing Lair. It is also a caster's set.
Genesis Raiment is a 5-piece set of quest rewards from the Temple of Ahn'Qiraj. Genesis is an extremely solid hybrid set. Though the distribution leans towards Int/Sta and caster stats, there is still a decent amount of Str/Agi on each piece as well as a scattering of bonus critical hits. Genesis also has high armor as a result of its high item levels. Taken as individual pieces or as a set Genesis would be useful for a Feral who needs to do some casting, or a caster who does not want to embarrass herself in forms.
Shadowcraft Garb is the Rogue's first set. Unlike the others, it is not restricted to Rogues-only so we can make use of this melee leather. As a set, Shadowcraft is decent but too low on attack power since unlike Rogues we can not concentrate solely on Agility at the expense of Strength. For some reason SC has a fair amount of Spirit on some of it, which benefits us more than it does Rogues. Overall I do not recommend pursuing this entire set although some of the individual pieces are very nice. Also, as a matter of etiquette, if you are with Rogues please pass on SC pieces or at least ask if it is okay to roll! It is their set, and there are better options for us in most slots. Any other leather with physical stats is fair game, but let them have SC if they want it.
The PVP Sanctuary sets are 6-piece sets from ranking up in the so-called Honor system. The Druid sets are very well balanced with all five stats and more bonuses besides, which makes them perfect PVP sets but less than ideal for the pure Feral.
The Highlanders' and Defilers' Purpose and Will are the 3-piece set from Arathi Basin. Purpose is for Rogues, or pure Feral Druids; Will sacrifices some Agility for Intellect and is probably better for the PVPing Druid.
Base Stats:
Strength (Str) is closely related to Attack Power (Atk) and is our primary means of increasing damage, since our paws cannot be upgraded like weapons. 1 Str = +2 Atk. If you have Heart of the Wild, 1 Str is effectively 2.4 Atk in Cat Form. Because of this, items that add raw Strength are better suited for Cat. Items that add Attack Power are equally as good as Strength for Bear.
Agility (Agi) is a secondary stat that affects a number of things. At level 60, 1 Agi is about +0.05% critical hits and +0.05% dodge (20 Agi is ~1% of each). 1 Agi = +2 Armor, and in Cat Form 1 Agi = 1 Atk. Cat Form makes good use of raw Agility, but it is better for Bear to use items that add +crit directly (see below). An item with +1% crit will have more room for other stats than an item with +20 Agility, and the +crit will scale better when the level limit is raised to 70.
Stamina (Sta) is of course essential to all classes. 1 Sta = 10 Health. With Heart of the Wild, 1 Sta is basically 12 Health for Bear Form. There is very little more to be said. If you are dying too often, you need more Stamina. This is an important stat whether you are tanking as a Bear or attacking as a Cat, and just as valuable when you are in your humanoid caster form.
Intellect (Int) has no direct effect on our forms' effectiveness but is far from useless. 1 Int = 15 Mana and +0.01% critical chance on spells. Heart of the Wild raises this to nearly 19 Mana per point of Intellect, giving us a little more freedom to focus on physical stats or making up for the less efficient heals of a Druid without Restoration talents. You will want a large Mana pool in PVP, but if you are filling a single tank or DPS role in PVE it is probably better to make that as strong as possible instead.
Spirit (Spi) affects Health and Mana regeneration. For Druids, 1 Spi = +0.2 Mana per tick (the total amount is 15+(Spi/5)). Generally speaking, you do not need to worry much about this stat as a Feral Druid. It is not useless, but the other stats are better investments.
Other mods:
+x% Crit: Raises chance to score a critical hit. This is always a welcome benefit. More crits means more damage, and we have Feral talents to get extra Rage and combo points on critical hits. +x% Hit: Raises chance to land a successful hit with melee attacks. We have a base 95% chance to hit a target of equal level, so +5% is a good target. Higher level targets require more. +x% Dodge: Raises chance to dodge. This is a nice if unreliable way of reducing damage taken. A good complement to high Armor, but not a substitute for it. +x% Parry, +x% Block: Not applicable to Druids. These are valuable to other classes so they should have priority on these items. Unless the other mods on such an item are very compelling, ignore.
+Atk: Some equipment raises Attack Power directly. 14 Atk is about +1 DPS. As mentioned, less efficient for Cat Form than items that add Strength.
+Def: Defense skill. For us, 1 Defense = +0.04% Dodge, +0.04% chance to be missed, -0.04% chance to be crit by attackers.
+(weapon skill). Also not applicable to Druids. Our weapon skill in forms is locked at our Feral skill, 5 points per level, 300 at level 60.
+x mp5: Abbreviation for "Passive: Restores X mana per 5 sec." Regenerates Mana even directly after casting when Spirit-based regen does not function. As of 1.9 this mod is now reported to work while shapeshifted.
+x hp5: Regenerate Health, even in combat. Unknown if this works while shapeshifted.
+SP: Spell Power. "Increases damage and healing done by magical spells and effects by up to X." Sometimes called focus.
+HP: Healing Power. As above but only affects the power of healing spells.
+x% SpCrit: Raises critical hit rate for spells.
AR: Arcane resistance. Mages, Druids. FR: Fire resistance. Mages, Warlocks. Also very useful in parts of the Molten Core and Blackwing Lair. FrR: Frost resistance. Mages, Shamans. NR: Nature resistance. Druids, Shamans. Hunter and Rogue poisons. Also useful in Maraudon and presumably Ahn'Qiraj. SR: Shadow resistance. Warlocks, Priests (of the face-melting variety).
Since we can not cast any spells or use Mana in forms, Feral equipment focuses on the physical stats. There are also some very nice leather pieces that give a boost to all of your stats (Bone Ring Helm, Death's Clutch, Songbird Blouse, Wildheart Kilt, Boots of the Shrieker), which may be particularly interesting for PvP Ferals that switch back and forth between forms more often.
In general, good choices for Bear Form include the gear with unusually high AC. Stamina is a must for tanking, of course. Strength and Agility are both useful to Bear Form, as Bear abilities like Swipe can crit but do not benefit from increasing Attack Power at all. Your best bet is probably to strike a balance between the two while keeping Stamina as high as possible, since a larger Health buffer is an easier tank to keep alive. Finally, you will want items that add to your Defense skill, since the harder you are to crit the less likely you are to succumb to an unlucky string of crits. Defense is very difficult to come by on leather armor, so treasure what you can manage to scrounge up.
Cat Form is much simpler. No amount of defensively oriented gear will make Cat good for surviving, as your only real defense is the ability to switch to Bear or caster forms. Therefore I believe that the best Cat Form gear is all-out offensive. High Attack Power (and therefore Strength) is an absolute must and although we cannot go wild on crit gear, a moderate crit rate is an excellent complement to high Attack Power. 20% is a good initial target for crit rate, but if you can go higher without hurting your Attack Power then go for it. With the new changes to Agility piling on both Strength and Agility should yield good Cat results. Stamina will help keep you alive, but do not worry about high Armor or Defense.

Feral attack speed cannot be buffed or debuffed and so the Libram of Rapidity has no effect for us. The Zul'Gurub enchant continues to perpetuate the idea of Druids doing nothing but healing. However, 10 Stamina is technically better than 100 Health because it gains the Heart of the Wild bonus. The other bonuses certainly don't hurt if you do any casting in your feral gear, but you will have to do a lot of extra work for this enchant compared to the librams. Note that with multiple percentage-based Stamina buffs (Blessing of Kings and Heart of the Wild while in Bear, for example) it is also possible for the +8 Stamina from Voracity to be better than 100 Health. I would not recommend basing your Libram decisions on these situations, however.

Otherwise, a fairly tough decision between 10 Stamina points' worth of Health which is very nice for all classes, or 15 points spread across all of your stats. In my opinion Stats is the better choice for a hybrid class like the Druid, even a full Feral build. Core Armor Kits are one means of raising Defense, but we get less benefit from Defense skill than other classes (no parry or block) and so I do believe the stats are the best choice. Enchantments that directly raise Armor (and Leatherworkers' Armor Kits) are not multiplied by the Dire Bear bonus. 10000 Armor becomes 10040 Armor if you put on a Rugged Armor Kit. It's not worth it. It is a better idea to get high-Armor items with low stats and then make up the difference in stats with enchants.

Minor Mount Speed increase is a useful but small boost; unless you routinely chase down mounts in PvP, I recommend carrying a separate pair of "riding gloves" with the riding enchant. Minor Attack Speed does not affect feral attack speed, like any other speed buff/debuff. Threat is an interesting choice for Bear tanking, but have another pair of gloves handy if you plan to spend a lot of time in Cat!

Many Druids switch to Enchanting and raise skill to 265 just to make the Smoking Heart (you can drop Enchanting afterwards and continue to equip the trinket). For Cat, Blackhand's Breadth is good but I would choose the Mark of Tyranny over it. It is easier to find a substitute for offensive trinkets than for defensive since there are so few that raise Armor directly and since we take such great advantage of them. Counterattack Lodestone would be an excellent choice if we could Parry, but half of the trinket is wasted for us. Horde Druids are in luck with the wonderful Rune of the Guard Captain.

Druids. Unlike armor, a weapon's damage has no effect on damage while shapeshifted. Blizzard has stated that they have no desire to revise the current system, which unfortunately means that as other melee classes find new rare and epic weapons Druid damage output is left behind. This is not too bad for Dire Bear Form which can fill the Warrior's tanking role regardless, but Cat Form has a real problem as it does not come anywhere remotely close to the damage output of its parent class. Generally higher DPS weapons have higher stats so we want stronger weapons like everyone else, but there are some real low-level gems. The Warden Staff (epic 43) is the best weapon for Dire Bear with Unyielding Maul (rare 57) close behind. Of course the Hammer of Bestial Fury is custom-made for us, but until similar items are made available it is not an option for most of us. Weapon Enchantments Agility (+15 Agility) Major Intellect (+9 Intellect on 2H Weapon) Major Spirit (+9 Spirit on 2H Weapon) Mighty Intellect (+22 Intellect) Mighty Spirit (+20 Spirit) Strength (+15 Strength) Thank goodness for the new Str/Agi enchants with the 1.6 patch! 'Chance on hit' effects (eg. Crusader, Lifestealing, Fiery, Icy, Unholy) do not proc while shapeshifted. Impact and Striking enchants that add damage per hit also do not function. Crusader was my previous choice because the buff carries over to forms if you shift after it procs, and a few seconds of +224 Attack Power (with Strength of the Wild) was really fun to see Most people preferred +9 Spirit. With the new patch everyone will likely switch over to extra Strength, Agility or possibly Spirit as they become available.

At level 60 with 5/5 FI you therefore have a "stealth factor" of 315 and are as difficult to detect as if you were level 63. This is identical to a Rogue with Master of Deception 5/5. The Night Elf Shadowmeld racial ability adds another 5 points for a total of 320. Predatory Strikes adds (level*1.5) Attack Power, that is, +90 Atk at level 60. Heart of the Wild affects your total stats, including base value, bonus from items, and even temporary buffs like Crusader (if it procs before you shift) and Mark of the Chosen. This means that Darkmoon Faire cards, Red Whelp Gloves, Green Whelp Armor, etc, all work normally. With 300 weapon skill against 300 Defense (ie level 60 Druid against level 60 enemy), your base critical hit rate is 5%, adjusted for Druids' low Agility. Your miss rate is also 5%. Crit rate is modified by your Agility, equipment, and the Sharpened Claws talent. Reducing the miss rate can only be done through equipment since our weapon skill value is fixed. Critical hit rate is a percentage of your total swings, not just the hits. 5% crit and 5% misses means that 5% of your swings will be crits, not just 5% of the 95% that hit (which would be slightly lower). Each extra point of Defense (whether from equipment or a higher-level defender) does the following: +0.04% chance for defender to dodge +0.04% chance for defender to parry (n/a for Druids) +0.04% chance for defender to block (n/a for Druids) +0.04% chance for attacker to miss -0.04% chance for attacker to crit Defense is also supposed to reduce the chance of being hit with a crushing blow and/or increase the chance of being hit with a glancing blow in PvE, but this is still being tested. Stealth Your base Stealth ability is equal to your Feral Combat ability, which is always maxed at 5 points per level. At level 60, your Stealth is 300. Night Elves have an extra +5 Stealth from their Shadowmeld racial ability. Feral Instinct raises your Stealth ability by 3 per talent point spent. FI 5/5 gives you +15 Stealth, in other words as difficult to detect as a level 63 character. Nightscape Boots raise Stealth ability by 5. This is not conclusively proven to work for Druids. Catseye Ultra Goggles raise detection by 18, which means you can spot Stealthed characters as well as if you were 3.6 levels higher. Bloodvine Lens raises detection by 10. The PVP set gloves also raise detection by 10. Catseye Elixir temporarily raises detection by 10. These are all cumulative.
