Does anyone have a suggestion for my hunter, Bairkillur, for a profession? Blacksmithing/Mining seemed logical for my Paladin (armor, etc), but I'm not so sure about the hunter class...

Being that you are new to the game i have 2 large profession suggestions.
Gathering and Gathering. mining, skinning, herbalism. any two of the three for every toon you play. it keeps your cost down while you learn the game. later, after your grip on the game is stronger and you have money to burn.... learn a crafting profession (if you still are fiending for one).
my second suggestion is not so much about a profession but about the vehicle you drive through this game. i see you have already created several alts, which is great, but it will stunt your growth. play all the alts you have up to 10 or 15 and then settle on one toon and play him to 60. dont toon hop, you are only nerfing yourself.
hope this helps these are, of course, just my opinions. your mileage might vary.

Aren't you limited to two professions per toon? If, say, I choose skinning and mining, then will I be able to choose a crafting profession, leatherworking or blacksmithing, respectively, when I have money to burn?
Note to self - I could probably get that answer in the manual... meh... I'd rather ask the moo.

first aid, cooking and fishing are secondary skills. you can choose all three and you have them for life.
all the others, whether, gathering or crafting or other (enchanting/engineering) are quittable. which gives you a free slot to learn a new profession

Mining/Engineering. Lots of stuff to make for your hunter (ammo, scopes, weapons).

I second mining/engineering. Sure, you could probably make a little more money if you merely spent time gathering and selling stuff on the auction house, but that's no fun. The only reason I'd make a pure gatherer character is if I'd already done all the professions I've wanted to on other characters. Part of the fun of the game is levelling up your profession and getting new patterns, and making stuff with your profession that you can use. And if any professions were *meant* to go with the Hunter class, it's mining/engineering, since you can make stuff your hunter needs. And I'm not exaggerating too much by saying that all hunters and rogues should be engineers so they can have jumper cables. Re: money: Just make sure you have enough money by the time you hit 40 to buy your mount. Don't go AH crazy like I did trying to level up your professions I actually switched professions midstream and felt like I was behind, so I blew a lot of money levelling them.
